PROBLEMS ENTERING TEXT IN BLACKBOARD
The visual text box (an area to enter and format text) may not appear in Blackboard within various areas like the Discussion Board, Tests, Assignments, and Announcements. This is a known issue with Internet Explorer 7 relating to Windows Vista and Windows XP. The easiest solution is to use another browser, like Firefox or Safari. If you are unable to install a new browser, simple solutions are described below based on operating system.
Solving text box issues in Windows Vista
The visual text box editor isn’t compatible with IE 7 on Windows Vista. Switch to a simple text box editor (which won’t allow for formatting) to solve this issue:
- Click the Tools menu item of your course site
- Click Personal Information
- Click Set Visual Text Box Editor Options
- Select Unavailable, and click Submit
Solving text box issues in Windows XP
ActiveX controls may be required to enter text in Blackboard with Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP. When ActiveX controls are needed, a Microsoft message bar near the top of the browser will appear. Click on the message bar (shown below) and then select Run ActiveX Control. Several ActiveX controls may need to be installed to use the Text Box Editor in IE 7.
2008 SUMMER COURSE SITES CREATED
2008 Summer Course Sites have been created and are now accessible to course site instructors. Students, however, will be unable to access the course site until instructors make the site available.
NUBLOG
NUWIKI
Course site instructors can now request that CMS add the NUWiki application to their course sites. NUWiki is a course-based wiki that allows students and instructors to quickly create, edit, and link web pages. Full details
CMS TRAINING
Instructor guided two-hour sessions help participants learn how to build and manage their course sites. Each session allows plenty of time for questions, as well as guided practice. All training sessions will be held in the University Library on the Evanston campus unless otherwise indicated. Dates and registration information |
